Apparently 8 weeks ish, but I kind of think it depends, are you having it midweek or at the weekend? Midweek weddings may mean people have to have some time off? Are you holding it somewhere that people will need to travel to and will need to book accommodation early? I think 8 weeks would be a minimum.
what everyone is saying around 8 weeks or 2 months before the big day but you should also take into consideration your guests, if they will be travelling long distances and it will cost them a bit to travel and for accommodation, or if its near or in a holiday period. My fiance and i will be getting married in less than 2 weeks which is holidays period for us in aussie, especially my family whom many of which teachers and are on their end of year break, so we made sure our invites were out about nearly 3 months in advance.
You should aim to send your wedding invitations out two months before the wedding day. Usually the RSVP date for replies would be one month before the wedding, so if you send it 2 months beforehand, that will give your guests at least one month to respond, which is a good time-frame.
Do note though, if you have quite a number of guests from out of town or overseas or if you are planning a destination wedding, it would be preferable to send out your invites even earlier (say 3 months beforehand). This will ensure that your guests have appropriate time to make travel, work leave and other arrangements well in advance. =)
You can order wedding invitations a minimum of 4-6 months prior to your wedding date.
Mail out your wedding invitations about 8 weeks before the wedding. Never less than 4 weeks prior to your wedding date.
If guests will be traveling from afar, you can send earlier or mail save the date cards up to 1 year in advance. This will allow your guests to mark their calendars and take the necessary time off work for traveling.
